Our video production team recently embarked on an exciting project, traveling to Kent to document the installation of one of our rainwater harvesting systems. Luke, our videographer, and Jake, our video editor, spent time on-site capturing every aspect of this innovative water management solution in action.
The project centred around Nick, a forward-thinking homeowner who’s building what he describes as “the warmest home in the southeast.” His eco-friendly self-build incorporates cutting-edge materials and technologies from across Europe, with our rainwater harvesting system serving as the “cream on the cake” of his sustainable vision.
Nick’s journey reflects a growing awareness of water security issues facing UK households. After experiencing four months of hosepipe bans every year for the past four years, he recognised that traditional water dependency wasn’t sustainable for maintaining his beautiful garden or ensuring reliable water supply during frequent infrastructure disruptions.
“We made the decision a little bit late,” Nick admitted during filming, explaining how incorporating the rainwater harvesting system mid-build presented some logistical challenges. The installation required careful coordination, with the tank needing to be positioned and lowered using a telehandler with nine-metre reach—all captured in detail by our video team.
The footage showcases not just the technical aspects of installation, but the real-world benefits these systems provide. Nick’s system will support his garden irrigation, toilet flushing, and washing machine operation, significantly reducing mains water dependency while future-proofing his property against water restrictions and supply interruptions.
Luke and Jake’s documentation goes beyond the installation process, capturing Nick’s enthusiasm for sustainable building practices and his advice for others considering similar projects. His emphasis on thorough research, working with experienced professionals, and maintaining a positive attitude toward daily challenges resonates with our own approach to complex water management projects.
“It was fascinating to document a project where our rainwater harvesting technology integrates so seamlessly with other innovative building techniques,” says Luke. “Nick’s commitment to sustainability and his practical approach to problem-solving really came through in the footage.”
The resulting video content will help demonstrate the real-world application and benefits of rainwater harvesting systems, showing potential customers exactly how these installations work and the positive impact they can have on both household resilience and environmental sustainability.
This project perfectly illustrates how GRAF LIFE extends beyond our office walls—we’re actively documenting and sharing the stories of customers who are making a difference in their communities through innovative water management solutions.
