River Tay Leisure Park, an 80-acre luxury holiday destination on the banks of the River Tay, is under development with a new 300-person wastewater treatment system from GRAF UK. The park is situated between Stanley and Luncarty on a former sand and gravel quarry, acquired by the Verdant Leisure Group earlier this year.
Verdant Leisure, which operates 12 other holiday parks across Scotland, northern England, and Devon, approved the previous owner’s decision to install a GRAF UK wastewater system. This choice aligns with SEPA‘s (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) effluent standards.
The GRAF UK system, utilising SBR (Sequence Batch Reactor) technology, features three large Carat XXL tanks made from 100% recycled plastic. This robust and efficient system was installed by groundworks contractors McIntosh & Robertson over four weeks at Gellyburn Quarry in Murthly, near Perth.
McIntosh & Robertson, an accredited GRAF UK service provider, managed the installation, which included backfilling the tanks and associated pipework with 10mm gravel. Although the compressor and control system are pending the completion of the pumped outfall system, the tanks were strategically placed at a higher-than-normal level to accommodate unique ground conditions.
Director Derek Robertson of McIntosh & Robertson noted that installing the private water supply and later commissioning the Klaro wastewater system demonstrated the system’s suitability for the park’s scale and needs. Russell Mann, sales director of Filpumps, highlighted that the system’s ability to be scaled up if necessary was a significant advantage for future capacity needs.
Verdant Leisure’s operations director, George Hope, emphasised the importance of investing in a high-quality, environmentally friendly system. The Klaro system’s reputation and efficiency were key factors in their decision. He also appreciated the system’s scalability for potential future expansion.
Set to open in spring 2023, River Tay Leisure Park will offer holiday accommodations and home ownership options, complemented by a bar and restaurant facility. The wastewater treatment system from GRAF UK ensures the park meets environmental standards and provides a reliable infrastructure for its guests.
