GRAF UK One2Clean wastewater treatment system

The owners of The Barn, a plot of land in Upper Boddington, planned to construct a one-bedroom family home. Since the property would be off-grid and not connected to the mains sewerage network, they required a reliable and efficient wastewater management system that complied with health and environmental regulations. Additionally, it was crucial that the system could be easily integrated once the building works were completed.

GRAF UK stepped in to size, design, supply, install, and commission a 5 PE One2Clean sewage treatment plant. This system treats waste in batches using multiple chambers, ensuring consistent and efficient performance. It boasts a high discharge quality of up to 99%, allowing the owners to surpass the effluent quality standards set by the Environmental Agency. An additional buffer tank was included to minimise the risk of untreated waste overflow. The self-anchoring design allowed for the excavation base to be filled with non-angular rocks instead of concrete, reducing installation costs and time.

The One2Clean wastewater tank, made from sturdy Duralen® plastic through injection moulding, has uniform thickness and no weak points, making it extremely robust. This durability makes the tank suitable for vehicle loading when equipped with a cast iron lid.

Once operational, the system will release clear, odourless treated effluent into a nearby watercourse, posing no risk to the environment or public health. GRAF UK systems like this one consistently exceed Environmental Agency limits for biochemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, and ammoniacal nitrogen, achieving 7, 14, and 0.5 milligrams per litre, respectively, compared to the minimum limits of 20, 30, and 20 milligrams per litre.

“This installation really showcases the advantages of the One2Clean system. It was a one-day, two-man job, with just one installer and one digger on site. The beauty of these products is that no complex machinery is required – you just need a toolbox. Now that the treatment plant is hidden beneath the ground, you wouldn’t know it was there at all. It works as it’s supposed to, unaided, with only a small green lid visible. Because there is no electricity or moving parts in this system, you also know there is no risk of anything breaking down.” — Bogdan Chira, Project Manager at GRAF UK.
