It’s undeniable that much of life is a competition.
As per Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theory, “survival of the fittest” is a phrase that describes the mechanism of natural selection, mostly pertaining to animals in the wild but I would argue that it also relates to us humans just as accurately. We’re all competing at something and the fittest, I’m sure, will always be more likely to survive.
I love my first competition of the morning… to get into the office first!
It’s not an easy competition to win with Tom (our warehouse supervisor) & Charli (our stock manager) nipping at my heels!
In fairness, they regularly beat me, which makes me feel even better on mornings like today when I get in long before them. The funny thing is, I’m sure they don’t even realise it’s a competition (until now that is!) so they’re probably not even trying – they just like an early start.
But there’s power in these little wins. Even when the competition is in your own head, when you win you feel good. You feel strong. And when you feel good and strong, you have forward momentum. And with forward momentum you can be unstoppable. And when you feel unstoppable, guess what?
Very little is going to disrupt you from being productive.
And you’re in a good place to start a new week.
This morning I shared this message with my staff and encouraged them to win some competitions of their own this week. Even the competitions that only exist in your own mind – the ones that no one else knows anything about – when you win, it’s still a win! It still gives you the same feeling. It still gives you forward momentum.
When the ‘wins’ start stacking up, you grow in confidence. You trust yourself and your ability. You get better at the competition. Whatever competition you may be in.
We’re all competing for something, especially in business, so why not give yourself an advantage?
